NVG is a secondary glaucoma associated with rubeosis iridis, ACA neovasculature and eventual increased IOP. The etiology and pathogenesis of NVG has been linked to diabetic retinopathy, Ischaemic retinopathy, CRAO, VEGF, radiation among others. See pictures below.
The evolution of clinical and histopathological changes from predisposing conditions to the occurrence of rubeosis iridis and neovascular glaucoma is divided into four stages: prerubeosis, preglaucoma, open angle glaucoma, and angle-closure glaucoma.
